Renowned rock singer Sass Jordan, hailing from Montreal, has passed away at the age of 65. The news was confirmed by family spokesperson Eric Alper, who stated that Jordan passed away on Friday in the presence of her loved ones. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
Described as an exceptional force of nature and a source of light and joy, Jordan’s music career spanned over four decades. Her debut album, “Tell Somebody,” was released in 1988, earning her the Juno Award for most promising female vocalist in 1989. Subsequently, her second album, “Racine,” released in 1992, featured hits like “Make You a Believer.”
Throughout her career, Jordan received multiple Juno Award nominations for best female vocalist and gained recognition as a judge on all six seasons of “Canadian Idol.” Born in Birmingham, England, on December 23, 1960, Jordan was raised in Montreal.
Geoff Kulawick, former president of Stony Plain Records, praised Jordan as a courageous and beautiful artist. Jordan collaborated with her husband Derek Sharp on her 2020 album, “Rebel Moon Blues,” and her 2022 album, “Bitches Blues,” while signed with Stony Plains.
Jordan’s talent and emotional connection with her audience garnered her a devoted fan base, according to Kulawick. Derek Downham, a Canadian producer and songwriter, fondly recalled his interactions with Jordan, highlighting her humor and warmth. He expressed sorrow over not being able to witness her infectious laughter again.
As one of the pioneering women in rock music, Jordan broke barriers in a predominantly male-dominated industry, paving the way for other female artists. Downham emphasized Jordan’s significant influence on aspiring performers and hoped she would be remembered for her trailblazing spirit and love for music.
Sass Jordan’s legacy as a talented and inspirational figure in the music industry will endure, leaving a lasting impact on fans and fellow musicians alike.
