Sainsbury’s has decided to discontinue its Chop Chop rapid delivery app and merge its functionalities into the main Sainsbury’s app. The Chop Chop service, initiated in 2016 to provide speedy grocery delivery in under 60 minutes for an additional fee, is operational in 50 Sainsbury’s outlets.

Regular users of Chop Chop may have observed that the standalone app has been eliminated. Attempts to download it now redirect users to the primary Sainsbury’s app. Jim Banks, Sainsbury’s head of experience design, communicated that this move was made to simplify the shopping experience for customers. He expressed this change on LinkedIn, stating, “Chop Chop is no more. Long live Chop Chop!”

The integration of Chop Chop into the main Sainsbury’s app signifies a significant advancement in streamlining the shopping ecosystem for a more straightforward, calmer, and humanized experience. Chop Chop had been in competition with Tesco’s Whoosh rapid delivery service, which promises deliveries within as little as 20 minutes.

In other supermarket news from the UK, Co-op has revealed plans to introduce 18 new or renovated stores by the first quarter of 2026. The inaugural Co-op store for 2026 is set to open in the fresh residential area of Willowbrook Park in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

Additionally, several stores are scheduled for reopening after renovation, including the convenience store in Eastern Green, Coventry, and a franchise-operated site in Ealing, London. Kate McCrae, Co-op Operations Director, emphasized the brand’s commitment to establishing local stores that not only serve as retail spaces but also as community hubs meeting the needs of the residents.

Moreover, Co-op aims to generate numerous new apprenticeships within the upcoming years, with a £70 million investment through its Levy Share service to create 7,000 matched apprenticeships by 2030.
