Thousands of individuals receiving benefits are set to get an additional payment of £293.50 later this year. This extra sum will be granted to those currently receiving Carer’s Allowance in Scotland.
Eligibility also extends to recipients of Carer Support Payment, a replacement for Carer’s Allowance in Scotland. The supplemental payment associated with these benefits is known as the Carer’s Allowance Supplement, disbursed twice annually.
The most recent payment was distributed in June 2025, with the subsequent payment scheduled for December 2025. Typically, individuals must already be claiming Carer’s Allowance or Carer’s Support Payment to qualify for this bonus.
Recipients expecting the payment will be notified by Social Security Scotland via letter, with the amount automatically transferred to their regular bank account without the need for a separate application.
Both Carer’s Allowance and Carer Support Payment amount to £83.30 per week. Details on eligibility for Carer’s Allowance can be found below. This news comes following the announcement of a forthcoming £200 payment for state pensioners born before 1959.
Carer’s Allowance is allocated to those dedicating at least 35 hours per week to caregiving responsibilities, which may include aiding individuals with daily tasks like personal hygiene, financial management, or medical appointments.
The care recipient must also be receiving one of the specified benefits. Additionally, caregivers must be 16 years or older, not engaged in full-time education, and not pursuing studies for 21 hours per week or more. There is an earnings threshold of £196 weekly to remain eligible for Carer’s Allowance.
Exceeding the earnings limit, even marginally, results in the loss of Carer’s Allowance entitlement. Relation to the care recipient is not a requirement, and if multiple individuals care for the same person, only one can claim Carer’s Allowance.
It is important to note that claiming Carer’s Allowance can impact the benefits of both the caregiver and the care recipient.
