Cycling icon Sir Chris Hoy shared an update on his well-being as he prepares for his charity cycling event, the ‘Tour de Four’. The six-time Olympic gold medalist made an appearance on BBC Breakfast to talk about his health in anticipation of the upcoming ride.

Hoy, the second-most decorated British Olympian, was diagnosed with prostate cancer two years ago after experiencing shoulder discomfort. Regrettably, he has been informed that his cancer has advanced to a terminal stage, spreading to his bones and reaching stage four.

Despite being given a prognosis of two to four years to live, Hoy remains resilient. During the interview with Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt, he reassured everyone by stating that he is doing well and that his condition is currently stable after undergoing recent radiotherapy.

Expressing his excitement for the Tour de Four, a new cycling initiative he launched, Hoy aims to shift perceptions about stage four cancer following his own diagnosis. He welcomes individuals affected by cancer to join the inaugural event, emphasizing that anyone capable of cycling is encouraged to participate. The event’s purpose is to raise funds for cancer charities across the United Kingdom while challenging misconceptions about the disease.

Hoy expressed his gratitude for the support, revealing that the initial fundraising goal was £1 million, but donations have already surpassed £1.6 million, with hopes of reaching £2 million. Furthermore, he announced that electronic music icons The Chemical Brothers will perform live at the event, with British sports legend Andy Murray also set to join the ride.

When asked who was more nervous about the ride, Hoy humorously hinted that Murray, who is currently more focused on golf, may be less prepared for the cycling challenge compared to his own fitness level.
