Schools across Britain are closing early in anticipation of Storm Goretti’s impact. The storm, named by Meteo France, is labeled a “multi-hazard event” by the Met Office. Weather experts predict up to 30cm of snow in parts of England and Wales.

Various weather warnings have been issued for snow, wind, rain, and ice nationwide, leading to anticipated travel disruptions and power outages. Particularly in the South West, where winds may reach 100mph, school officials are taking precautionary measures, as reported by Cornwall Live.

Temperatures are dropping rapidly, and the cold spell is expected to persist through the weekend, with blizzard conditions looming in parts of England, Wales, and Scotland. Met Office forecaster Neil Armstrong warns of significant snow impacts in Wales and the Midlands, along with strong winds in the South West and heavy rain in some areas.

The Met Office highlights potential disruptions to travel by road, air, and public transport, as well as the risk of power cuts and potential isolation of communities. Nearly 100 areas are under snow warnings, with substantial snowfall expected in the Midlands and Wales. Over 1,000 schools have already closed in preparation for the severe weather conditions.
