Viewers who depend on Freeview for their daily TV entertainment may encounter some frustration in the coming days. The popular TV service, serving millions of users, is currently facing challenges due to the prevailing weather conditions.

The ongoing sunny weather could lead to disruptions in Freeview service until Friday, affecting viewers across the country.

The recent issues with Freeview reception are attributed to a high-pressure system hovering over the UK. While the weather is perfect for outdoor activities like barbecues and pool time, it interferes with the signals necessary for delivering TV channels to households nationwide.

According to the BBC, the high-pressure conditions can disrupt television reception by causing local transmitter signals to travel higher in the atmosphere. This phenomenon can lead to interference from distant transmitters, resulting in picture disruptions, freezing, or signal loss for viewers.

Freeview issued a statement advising viewers that disruptions in TV reception may occur from Wednesday 24th to Friday 26th June 2026 due to the prevailing high-pressure weather conditions affecting signal transmission.

Unfortunately, there are limited solutions for viewers facing these reception issues. Adjusting settings or retuning the TV will not resolve the problem.

Freeview recommends viewers not to retune their TVs during this period and assures that reception will return to normal once the high-pressure conditions subside.

For those seeking to avoid weather-related interruptions, switching to Freely, a service offered by the creators of Freeview, could be a viable option. Freely delivers TV content through broadband, eliminating reliance on terrestrial signals and bypassing weather interference issues.

Due to its internet-based delivery method, Freely remains unaffected by weather-related signal disruptions, providing viewers with uninterrupted viewing experiences regardless of the weather conditions.

In addition to weather immunity, Freely offers various features such as access to over 50 live and on-demand channels, live TV pause functionality, personalized recommendations, and an interactive guide for program schedules.
