The survivor of a notorious serial killer has recounted her harrowing experience to the public, displaying both fear and courage. Holly Dunn endured a traumatic event that left physical wounds healed but emotional scars lingering.
At 21 years old, Holly faced a terrifying encounter with Angel Maturino Resendiz, a wanted serial killer, on August 29, 1997. During the ordeal, she was assaulted, leading to the tragic loss of her boyfriend’s life and a near-death experience for herself.
Holly, a student at the University of Kentucky, had left a party with her boyfriend, Chris Maier, near their college campus in Lexington. As they sat by the railway tracks, they were approached by Resendiz, who demanded money. Despite their financial constraints, Resendiz immobilized Chris and threatened them.
In a documentary titled “The Railroad Killer: I Escaped a Murderer,” Holly detailed the terrifying moments when she feared for her life as Resendiz attacked them. She described the brutal assault, her struggle for survival, and the traumatic events that followed.
After enduring a violent attack, Holly was left severely injured, losing significant blood and spending days in the hospital. Despite the trauma, she became a pivotal witness in Resendiz’s trial, seeking justice for herself, Chris, and other victims of the killer.
Resendiz’s capture and subsequent confession to multiple murders brought closure to the case. Found guilty of capital murder, he was sentenced to death in 2000 and executed in 2006. Holly’s bravery in facing her attacker in court and speaking on behalf of the victims showcased her resilience and determination to seek justice.
The survivor’s story sheds light on the horrors of Resendiz’s crimes and the impact on his victims and their families. Holly’s courage in sharing her ordeal serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of those who survive unimaginable circumstances.
