A generous Cape Breton teenager, aided by a modest hotdog stand and numerous contributions, successfully raised $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada. Jake Campbell, 13, together with his family, managed to achieve this fundraising feat over the past weekend by selling hotdogs, using supplies donated by No Frills and Wonder Bread.

In an interview with Information Morning Cape Breton, Campbell mentioned that they had raised $3,000 the previous year through hotdog sales. Eager to surpass that amount, Campbell expressed his goal of doubling the fundraising efforts, a target they clearly exceeded.

The Campbell family operated their hotdog stand in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., where in addition to the proceeds from hotdog sales, they also received generous cash donations from the community. Hollie Quick, a senior development officer at Make-A-Wish Canada’s Nova Scotia chapter, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they received from the Sydney community.

Quick recalled how Campbell had been recognized with an award last year in memory of a wish child, which seemingly inspired him to raise even more funds this year. With the money raised, Make-A-Wish Canada will be able to fulfill the wishes of 81 children in Nova Scotia, ranging from creating accessible spaces for outdoor activities to facilitating family trips.

Campbell emphasized his commitment to supporting the foundation, emphasizing the impact it has beyond just the children involved. Reflecting on the success of this year’s fundraising, he hinted at ambitious plans for next year, although he admitted uncertainty about the exact contribution from hotdog sales to the total amount raised.
