Tesco is set to distribute hundreds of free Christmas trees during a special one-day event. These Christmas trees, often considered “wonky” due to minor imperfections like uneven branches, will be available at select Tesco stores on Saturday, December 6. While these trees would not typically be sold, Tesco is encouraging recipients to make voluntary donations to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell.
The free trees will be offered at specific locations including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra. The giveaway will start at 10 am on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of one tree per household. Comparable Christmas trees elsewhere start at £13.99 at Aldi and £14.99 at Home Bargains.
Ashwin Prasad, Tesco’s UK CEO, emphasized the importance of finding joy in imperfect moments, stating that even though the trees may be slightly flawed, they can bring charm to any home with a touch of love and strategic ornament placement. A recent Tesco survey revealed that most Brits prioritize the experience over perfection during the holiday season, with 87% agreeing that Christmas doesn’t have to be flawless to be special.
In other news, Tesco announced a special promotion for Clubcard members, offering double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December. This promotion extends to all third-party gift cards purchased in Tesco stores, automatically adding double points to Clubcard accounts. With approximately 24 million Clubcard members, Tesco offers various ways to earn points, including purchases of groceries, fuel, Tesco Mobile services, and using Tesco credit cards or Clubcard Pay+ debit cards. Clubcard members can redeem points for vouchers worth £1.50 for every 150 points accumulated at Tesco stores.
