Tommy Fleetwood has expressed his approval of Brooks Koepka’s comeback to the PGA Tour and disclosed that LIV Golf has not pursued him during this postseason. Koepka recently exited the Saudi-backed tour and swiftly rejoined the PGA Tour, with his first appearance scheduled at the Farmers Insurance Open next week.
With Koepka’s return, LIV Golf faces the challenge of retaining its other prominent players, as Patrick Reed hinted at a potential return as well. Fleetwood, currently ranked No.3 in the world, praised the PGA Tour for its exceptional events and substantial prize money, emphasizing his gratitude for the opportunity to compete in such prestigious tournaments.
Regarding his own ambitions, Fleetwood aims for his first Major victory and emphasizes the importance of aligning goals and dreams with one’s chosen path in the game. While acknowledging the allure of LIV Golf for some players, he underlines the personal nature of such decisions and the pursuit of excellence in golf.
LIV Golf, backed by the Public Investment Fund of Newcastle’s owners, made significant investments in previous seasons, with high-profile signings like Koepka and Rahm. This year, the focus has shifted to less renowned players joining the roster, including Victor Perez and Laurie Canter.
Despite being a target for LIV Golf in the past, Fleetwood’s value has risen significantly, and he has not been approached by the organization recently. His Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry supported Koepka’s decision to leave LIV Golf and return to the PGA Tour, foreseeing a positive impact on the tour’s smaller events.
Reflecting on his recent performance at the Dubai Invitational, Lowry expressed his determination to move past the disappointment of a missed opportunity for victory. The Irish golfer remains focused on his game and aims to compete at his best in upcoming tournaments.
