A man has been arrested by Toronto police in connection with a recent incident where multiple cars were set on fire at the residence of a Scarborough MP. Roshvin Crofton, 24, faces charges including arson causing property damage, mischief over $5,000, conspiracy to commit a serious offense, possession of flammable materials, and violating a probation order.
Authorities have also seized a 2025 Hyundai Sonata believed to be linked to the arson. The police are seeking information about the whereabouts of the vehicle before the incident. Another suspect is being sought in connection with the case.
The arson took place in the driveway of Liberal MP Salma Zahid, who represents the Scarborough Centre-Don Valley East district. According to authorities, an unknown individual approached the vehicles in the driveway on August 27, poured an accelerant on two cars, set them on fire, and fled the scene, causing damage to a third vehicle.
Zahid expressed gratitude towards the police for the arrest but mentioned that the motive behind the incident remains unknown. She stated that further comments will be made once more information is available. Zahid, a Liberal member since 2015, holds positions in parliamentary committees and associations.
The incident has drawn criticism from various political figures, with Prime Minister Mark Carney condemning it as a “cowardly act of violence and intimidation.”
