A tragic incident occurred in West Dublin where a young boy, identified as Oisin O’Reilly, aged 11, was found dead in a home on Lindisfarne Grove, Clondalkin. The body of his father, Wayne O’Reilly, aged 48, was discovered in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot, in what is suspected to be a murder-suicide.

Authorities were alerted to the situation in Clondalkin, located just 15 minutes away, where they found Oisin’s remains. It is believed that the cause of death was asphyxiation.

Both father and son were reported missing to the Gardai in October of the previous year, prompting a nationwide search before they were eventually located unharmed.

The body of the young boy was removed from the scene in front of shocked neighbors, with Garda Technical Bureau members present for forensic examination. A close friend of Wayne O’Reilly expressed deep sorrow over the tragic events, mentioning the father’s deteriorating mental health in recent years.

Local councilors expressed their sympathy for the families affected by the heartbreaking incident, emphasizing the community’s shock and grief. Investigations are ongoing, with the incident being treated as a murder-suicide, and authorities are not seeking any other suspects.

In an official statement, the Gardai confirmed their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the bodies and the involvement of the State Pathologist’s Office. Post-mortem examinations will be conducted to aid in the investigation under the supervision of a Senior Investigating Officer.
