The TV licence fee is scheduled to increase once again, but if you no longer require a TV licence, you might be eligible for a refund.

Currently priced at £174.50 annually, the TV licence fee will rise to £180 starting in April. Possessing a TV licence is necessary to view or record live television, or to stream any content – whether live or on BBC iPlayer.

If your viewing is limited to streaming services other than BBC iPlayer, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5, then a TV licence is unnecessary. However, tuning into live broadcasts through these platforms will necessitate a TV licence. Failure to comply could result in a fine of up to £1,000 if caught watching programmes that mandate a TV licence.

Should you no longer require your TV licence before its expiration, you may be entitled to a refund with at least one month remaining on it. Additionally, refunds are available for those eligible for over 75 or blind concessions. Remember, violating TV licence requirements could lead to a fine of up to £1,000.
