Two nations have agreed to enhance their efforts in repatriating their citizens who were deported from the UK following a visa ban threat by the Home Secretary.

Shabana Mahmood recently warned that visas for foreign nationals from specific countries could be withheld if those governments did not cooperate on return agreements. Initially, Angola, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were singled out.

The Home Office stated that Angola and Namibia faced consequences for their inadequate and obstructive return procedures. Subsequently, both countries agreed to receive migrants to avoid penalties. However, the UK has suspended expedited visa processing and special visa privileges for diplomats and VIPs from the DRC as a punitive measure for their lack of compliance.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood emphasized the importance of countries abiding by regulations regarding the repatriation of their citizens who are not entitled to stay in the UK. She commended Angola and Namibia for their cooperation and urged the DRC to follow suit to avoid losing entry privileges to the UK.

The actions taken so far are part of a broader strategy to bolster border security and increase the removal of individuals residing unlawfully in the UK. Despite the recent developments, the three countries in question accounted for a small fraction of the over 800,000 visas issued for various purposes in the past year.

Yvette Cooper, the Foreign Secretary, highlighted the government’s commitment to expelling individuals without legal status in the UK, emphasizing the importance of cooperation from other nations in facilitating returns. The diplomatic network has been instructed to prioritize repatriation efforts, demonstrating that collaboration yields faster outcomes.

Individuals entering the UK illegally, overstaying visas, or engaging in criminal activities are likely to face deportation, with the government continuing to seek the assistance of foreign governments in this process.
