The Met Office has issued a fresh yellow warning for snow and ice on Sunday following the aftermath of Storm Goretti across the UK.

Storm Goretti brought nearly 100mph winds after a rare red warning for dangerous winds in the South West. Over 30,000 properties were left without power in the South West, with additional power outages in the West Midlands, East Midlands, and Wales.

Continuing weather warnings predict a risk of ice across the UK, with a new snow and ice warning in place for northern England and Scotland on Sunday from 2am to 3pm. The forecast suggests possible disruptions in travel, including road delays, stranded vehicles, and passenger inconveniences for rail, air, and bus services.

The Met Office warns of potential injuries from slips on icy surfaces and the likelihood of power cuts. The warning details a band of snow moving through the area, with snow accumulations expected at different elevations and regions. Affected areas include parts of Central, Tayside and Fife, East Midlands, Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar, North East England, North West England, and more.

Further warnings for snow and ice are effective on Saturday, with forecasts indicating additional snow accumulation on Sunday, mainly in Scotland and northern England. The ongoing severe weather conditions are anticipated to cause disruptions, especially in areas already affected by heavy snowfall.

Described as a multi-hazard event by the Met Office, Storm Goretti has triggered outbreaks of rain and sleet in eastern England, while wintry showers persist in other regions. Cold temperatures with frost and ice are expected, with lighter winds compared to previous days.

Wintry showers are forecasted for parts of eastern England and Scotland, while inland areas may experience frost throughout the day. The weather is expected to turn wet and windy on Sunday, with hill snow in the north. Milder conditions are projected for Monday and Tuesday.
