A red weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for Storm Goretti, urging people to remain indoors. Storm Goretti is impacting the UK and is classified as a “multi-hazard event” by the Met Office, with potential snowfall of up to 30cm and wind gusts reaching 100mph. Weather alerts are in effect nationwide, with a red warning now in place for the South West region.
The warning covers Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, from 4pm to midnight today. The Met Office predicts exceptionally strong winds, with “violent gusts” lasting up to three hours. Storm Goretti is expected to bring intense northwesterly winds to the Isles of Scilly and parts of Cornwall, with peak gusts ranging from 80-100 mph in exposed areas.
Authorities advise individuals to stay indoors if possible and secure loose items to prevent injury. Driving during hazardous conditions is strongly discouraged to ensure personal safety and property protection. Various weather warnings have been issued for snow, wind, rain, and ice across the country, with potential disruptions and unsafe travel conditions.
