The transition in the UK from outdated copper phone and broadband lines to advanced full fibre technology is rapidly gaining momentum. Millions have already made the switch to this enhanced connectivity, and more households are set to move away from copper cables soon.

BT’s Openreach has announced that 1.2 million properties will be impacted by the “Stop Sell” alerts, with 132 new locations being added to the list. Stop Sell prevents ISPs like BT, Sky, TalkTalk, and Vodafone from selling traditional copper-based services in areas where full fibre is available.

New contracts or renewals will now require a switch to fibre broadband, including the transition from traditional landlines to Digital Voice. Despite concerns from some customers, Digital Voice offers improved call quality and features like spam call blocking and call diversion to mobile phones.

Openreach assures that customers without access to full fibre can continue using copper-based services until fibre is accessible in their area. The aim is to accelerate the migration to modern full fibre technologies as copper’s capabilities diminish in supporting modern communications.

To check for available services in your area, you can utilize the Openreach postcode checker to determine the availability of full fibre. The list of locations newly affected by Stop Sell alerts includes various areas across the UK.
