Eleven regions in the UK are advised to prepare essential supplies as the Met Office issues a “danger to life” weather alert for strong winds. This warning will be in effect from 9 pm tonight until midday on Monday, covering parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland, where wind speeds could reach up to 80mph in exposed areas.

The Met Office warns of potential injuries and hazards from flying debris, along with the risk of large waves and beach materials hitting seafronts. Power cuts are also a possibility, with potential damage to buildings and disruption to mobile phone services. The warning highlights a small chance of road and bridge closures.

Residents are urged to get ready for potential power outages by gathering torches, batteries, a mobile phone charger, and other necessary items. Additionally, a yellow rain warning is in place in Scotland until 10 am Monday, with possible flooding that could affect buildings and train services.

Up to 60mm of rain is expected across the warning area, with some areas like Skye, Lochaber, Argyll, and the Trossachs possibly receiving 110mm. Thawing snow adds to the flood risk, prompting authorities to recommend preparing an “emergency flood kit” for safety measures.
