Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to an all-time low. The company has initiated an unexpected sale that has resulted in over £70 being discounted from its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband plan.

This particular package boasts “blazing-fast” speeds of up to 1,130Mbps, typically priced at £29.99 per month. However, it is currently available for just £26.99, translating to a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract, which amounts to roughly 87p per day.

Virgin has stated that this reduced rate represents the “lowest ever price” for its Gig1 plan. At these speeds, a full-length HD movie can be downloaded in under 30 seconds, while a 50GB PS5 game can be ready to play in less than seven minutes.

While households with 70Mbps speeds might expect the same game to take over 90 minutes to download, Virgin Media’s offer ensures a smoother experience for streaming Netflix and online gaming with its super-fast connection.

However, it is important to note that the discounted £26.99 rate will increase twice during the minimum term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and further to £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be accessible to all households in the UK, so it is advisable to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.

Virgin Media has cut the price of its Gig1 Fibre Broadband to an unprecedented low of £26.99 per month, resulting in a £72 saving over the 24-month period. When compared to competitors like Sky offering a 900Mbps plan at £28, Virgin’s deal stands out as more cost-effective and faster.

Meanwhile, BT charges £37.99 for access to its 900Mbps connection, making it a pricier option. Considering alternatives, some emerging providers, known as alt-nets, are offering competitive prices compared to major brands.

For those who do not require ultra-high speeds, a speed of around 100Mbps should suffice for basic streaming needs, while larger households engaging in heavy internet activities may benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps. Choosing Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre is akin to having a direct motorway connection to your living space, ensuring smooth and fast internet access.
