Waitrose is introducing complimentary treat vouchers for customers as part of a significant revamp of its myWaitrose loyalty program. The “Little Treat” vouchers are currently being tested in 18 stores and are unlocked when a shopper spends £50, £100, and £250. This means Waitrose customers can receive up to three vouchers monthly, with the count resetting at the beginning of each month.

These vouchers provide access to free products or discounts on future supermarket purchases. Waitrose has assured that these new benefits will not replace existing perks of the loyalty scheme, such as complimentary hot drinks, 20% discounts on selected service counter items on specific days, and promotions on Uber Eats.

Nathan Ansell, Waitrose’s chief customer officer, stated, “We are constantly enhancing our My Waitrose loyalty club for our members’ advantage. ‘Little Treats’ serves as a regular reminder to our growing number of loyal patrons of how much we appreciate them. These treats could range from delightful items to practical ones that bring a smile to their faces.”

In related news, Waitrose has initiated a service allowing customers to borrow a reusable coffee cup when redeeming their complimentary drink, with a one-week window for cup return to a designated drop-off point to avoid a £3 fee. This service was piloted in nine stores in June and requires customers to scan their MyWaitrose card for utilization.

Customers still have the option to bring their own cup, provided it fits under the self-service machine nozzle. Last year in January, Waitrose reintroduced complimentary tea and coffee for loyalty cardholders, even without making a purchase at the store.

Previously, myWaitrose members were required to make a purchase before claiming their free drink. Additionally, Waitrose announced plans in June to open its first full-sized supermarket in seven years, with the John Lewis Partnership securing a multi-million-pound deal for further supermarket expansion. The new store, set to open in 2027 in Brabazon, North Bristol, as a collaboration with YTL Developments, is anticipated to generate approximately 150 job opportunities.
