A tragic incident unfolded at a wedding reception in Pakistan as a gas cylinder explosion resulted in the loss of at least eight lives, including the newlywed couple. The reception was being held at a residence in Islamabad, the capital city, leading to a section of the building collapsing. Authorities reported seven additional individuals sustaining injuries during the unfortunate event.
The explosion occurred in a residential neighborhood in the city center, prompting a swift investigation by the police to determine the cause. Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Yousaf confirmed the conclusion of the rescue operation, assuring that no individuals were left trapped under the debris. The search efforts, aided by sniffer dogs, ensured the recovery of all victims.
Yousaf stated, “Three houses were completely destroyed, while a fourth sustained partial damage. Inspection of neighboring structures is underway to mitigate further risks.” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the affected families. He instructed health authorities to provide optimal care to the injured and mandated a thorough inquiry. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
In Pakistan, many households rely on liquefied petroleum gas cylinders due to low natural gas pressure, despite the association of such cylinders with fatal accidents caused by gas leaks. Police affirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
