Wetherspoon is set to launch a new university pub at the University of Birmingham. The pub, named Joe’s after the university’s clock tower, will be managed by the Guild of Students. Scheduled to open in Easter 2026 after a significant renovation, the establishment will offer the complete Wetherspoon food and beverage menu, including special weekly deals like the Thursday Curry Club.
With around 800 pubs nationwide, Wetherspoon previously introduced its first university pub at Hull University in 2022. Chief executive John Hutson expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with the Guild of Students, aiming to make Joe’s Bar a successful venture.
Antonia Listrat, President of the University of Birmingham Guild of Students, highlighted the advantages for students, emphasizing the value-for-money offerings and increased job prospects resulting from the collaboration. The surplus generated will be reinvested in supporting student activities, strengthening commercial efforts for the Guild’s future and enhancing the overall student experience.
Wetherspoon’s expansion plans include opening six new pubs by mid-January. Meanwhile, the recent launch of the Christmas menu features a returning favorite—the affordable turkey dinner comprising various festive delights. Prices for the meal start at £13.99 with a soft drink or £15.52 with an alcoholic beverage, varying based on location. This marks a slight increase from the previous year’s pricing.
The Christmas menu will remain available until December 31, offering customers a seasonal dining option. Tim Martin, Wetherspoon’s CEO, aims to minimize price hikes despite the company’s positive financial performance. He acknowledged potential cost increases due to taxes within the pub industry but assured efforts to limit price adjustments within Wetherspoon’s offerings.
