Consumer rights organization Which? has unveiled the top current account providers and recommended that millions of customers consider switching their accounts.

Which? conducted an analysis of various product features such as fees, overdrafts, charges, and benefits in its latest survey. The organization also surveyed over 6,600 customers to gauge their satisfaction levels with their current accounts.

A total of six providers received the Which? Recommended Provider (WRP) status. These included Chase, Danske Bank, First Direct, Monzo, Nationwide, and Starling.

Starling emerged as the leader with a customer score of 86%, earning its seventh WRP badge. It received a full five-star rating for both online and mobile banking, and four stars for customer service.

Monzo achieved a customer score of 85%, with a five-star rating for mobile banking convenience and four stars for overall customer service.

First Direct secured an 84% customer score and has been the longest standing current account WRP, holding the award for over ten years.

This year, it was awarded five stars for overall customer service and for online, mobile, and telephone banking, and four stars for ease of contacting customer services.

Nationwide also received an 84% customer score, with four stars for in-branch service and five stars for online banking.

Chase, owned by JPMorgan, achieved an 82% customer score. It received five stars for its mobile app and four stars in categories like customer service, ease of application, and telephone banking.

Danske Bank obtained an 80% customer score, predominantly receiving four-star ratings, including for overall customer service and online banking.

Allied Irish Bank narrowly missed the WRP status despite an 85% customer score. Revolut, scoring 83%, was not named a WRP as it operates as an e-money provider in the UK, leaving customers not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

A recent Which? survey of over 6,600 current account holders revealed that nearly 37% have remained loyal to the same provider for over 20 years, despite the emergence of new current account options in the market.

TSB ranked at the bottom with a customer score of 67%. It received two stars in categories like customer service and telephone banking but secured four stars for online and mobile banking.

Just above TSB were Virgin Money, Santander, and Halifax, all tied at 71%.

Deputy Editor of Which? Money, Sam Richardson, emphasized the importance of switching banks for better perks and services, urging long-term customers to explore the benefits offered by Which? Recommended Providers.

Richardson added, “Switching is a quick and hassle-free process, ensuring direct debits are seamlessly transferred, providing a more rewarding banking experience.”

Representatives from TSB, Virgin Money, Santander, and Halifax offered comments on their commitment to enhancing customer services and banking experiences.

The Mirror reached out to Santander and Halifax for additional feedback.
