Andy Robertson shared his emotional struggle after securing Scotland’s spot in the World Cup. Despite the significance of the moment, Robertson couldn’t shake thoughts of his former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota.

Expressing his turmoil, Robertson admitted, “I’ve tried to conceal it, but I’ve been deeply affected. Given my age, this might be my final opportunity to participate in the World Cup. Diogo Jota lingered in my mind constantly. We often discussed the World Cup; he missed out due to injury previously, and I missed out because Scotland didn’t qualify. I was in a tough spot earlier, though I concealed it from my teammates. I believe he is watching over me, smiling somewhere. He occupied my thoughts throughout the day.”

Robertson is not the only one struggling with the loss of Jota. Several Liverpool players, including Mo Salah, have shown signs of distraction and decreased performance this season. The tragic passing of Jota in a car accident continues to resonate at Anfield, where the club pays tribute to his memory.

Jota’s absence is poignant, evident by his untouched seat in the dressing room, his name still above it, and his presence on matchday programs. His legacy remains cherished, as he was not only an exceptional player but also a remarkable individual, as attested by those who knew him in the football community.

The reminders of Jota’s absence may hinder Robertson and others like him in moving forward. While grief affects people differently, Robertson’s openness about his feelings deserves admiration. His genuine expression stands out in the football world, reflecting the deep bond he shared with Jota, whom he mourned by attending his funeral in Gondomar, near Porto.

Life progresses at varying paces for each individual, and coping with loss is a personal journey. As Liverpool grapples with performance challenges this season, the absence of Jota, who could have been a source of support, adds to the team’s struggles. The impact of his loss is evident as the team navigates through a challenging period of reflection and adjustment.
