Fire TV Stick users need to exercise caution when adding new apps to their devices. The popular tool “Downloader” has been removed from Amazon’s Appstore, paving the way for a fraudulent copycat app that aims to defraud users.

The disappearance of Downloader from Amazon’s online marketplace raised concerns over the weekend. Downloader has been a long-standing tool for Fire TV owners, enabling them to search for and install apps not found in official stores.

Despite its usefulness, Downloader faced a temporary suspension due to an update that categorized it as a web browser, breaching Amazon’s policy against third-party browsers on Fire TV devices. The developer, Elias Saba, is working on a fix to address this issue and hopes for Amazon’s approval to reinstate the app soon.

In the meantime, users are advised to steer clear of a fake version of Downloader attempting to deceive Fire TV owners into paying a weekly fee. Saba urges users to report this scam app to Amazon and recommends not uninstalling the legitimate Downloader to ensure reinstallation once it is restored.

If Amazon greenlights the solution, Downloader may make a comeback to Fire TV devices in the coming days. Users are advised to monitor the situation closely for updates.
