The Met Office has issued a new amber weather warning for significant and continuous snowfall, advising residents in six areas to prepare essential supplies.

This snow alert covers portions of central and eastern Scotland and is effective from 3 am until 2 pm tomorrow. Alongside this, there is a broader yellow warning for ice and snow impacting 51 regions in Scotland and northern England. The amber warning cautions against driving in these hazardous conditions and suggests stocking up on torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities.

According to the Met Office, a snow band is expected to move in from Sunday morning, with snowfall estimates ranging from 2cm to 5cm in lower areas, 10cm to 15cm above 150 meters, and 20cm to 30cm above 300 meters. The forecast also warns of strong winds causing snow drifts and potential blizzard conditions.

The affected areas include Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, East Midlands, North East England, North West England, Orkney & Shetland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde, West Midlands, and Yorkshire & Humber.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the Met Office predicts wet and windy weather with snow in the north and a risk of ice from freezing rain. Coastal gales are expected, with milder conditions in the west.

Additionally, a yellow ice warning remains active until midday today across various regions, cautioning about partially thawed snow refreezing, freezing fog, and wintry showers leading to icy surfaces and an increased risk of slips and falls.

Northern Ireland is under a separate yellow snow and ice warning until 11 am today, with forecasts of icy patches and hill snow.
