Sky has introduced new smart home plans in the UK that feature internet-connected cameras with cloud recordings starting at just £5 per month. This offering poses a competitive alternative to popular home security devices like Ring doorbells and Google’s Nest system. The plans include two options: the first plan offers a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime for £5 per month with a £15 upfront fee, providing features such as full HD video recording, instant alerts, customisable activity zones, two-way talk, and 30 days of cloud video storage. For enhanced security, customers can opt for the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+ priced at £8 per month with a £20 upfront fee, which includes an indoor camera and additional app features like scheduled arming and automatic arm modes. Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, emphasized that these plans aim to make high-quality smart technology more accessible and user-friendly. Previously, Sky primarily offered Protect Smart Home Insurance, but these new packages allow customers to purchase Sky Smart Home products as standalone services for the first time. In comparison, Amazon currently sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99, along with a Ring Protect subscription starting at £4.99 per month for cloud recording access.
