A resident in Minneapolis expressed deep concern over recent events involving the detention of a five-year-old boy by ICE, describing it as a descent into a new level of distress. The incident drew widespread attention as reports surfaced alleging that the child was used as a lure to apprehend family members at their residence in Minnesota. According to an official from The Columbia Heights Public School District, the young boy, identified as Liam Conejo Ramos, was intercepted by masked individuals in his driveway upon returning home from school with his father.

The situation sparked outrage among locals, with neighbor Vanessa Mullenix denouncing ICE’s actions, stating that the targeting of children and using them as leverage to remove families from their homes was heart-wrenching. Vice President JD Vance, during a visit to Minnesota, defended the operation in a speech by asserting that the child was not detained but rather part of an effort to apprehend his father, Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias.

Addressing criticisms, Vance questioned the alternative scenarios, asking if ICE should have allowed a five-year-old to be exposed to harsh conditions or if they should ignore the presence of an undocumented individual in the United States. Mullenix, echoing the sentiments of many in the community, expressed deep distress and concern for the safety of her family, friends, and neighbors.

Furthermore, the Columbia Heights Public School District confirmed that federal agents had detained four students in separate incidents over the past two weeks. Residents, including Kelly Tromsten, highlighted their struggle to comprehend the distressing events unfolding in their city, which have gained global attention. Tromsten criticized the manipulation of facts and narratives surrounding the incidents, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice in the face of such atrocities.
