Twelve regions in the UK are preparing for significant snowfall and a drop in temperatures later this month, as indicated by the latest weather data. Recent forecasts from WXCharts suggest that wintry weather is set to move across the country on January 15.

The most substantial snow accumulation is expected in central Scotland, with depths projected to reach up to 28cm in Cairngorms National Park. Northern and central regions of Scotland could see snow levels ranging from 3cm to 27cm.

In Southern Scotland, lighter snowfall of up to 2cm is anticipated, while the Lake District is likely to experience around 1cm of snow. The coldest temperatures are forecast for central Scotland, with temperatures plunging to a bone-chilling -8C in Cairngorms National Park. Cities in Scotland such as Aberdeen and Glasgow can expect temperatures varying between -1C and -7C.

Northern England is expected to have temperatures ranging from 0C to -2C, while the rest of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will have milder conditions with temperatures between 1C and 5C, according to reports.

The outlook from the Met Office for the upcoming period states that changeable and occasionally unsettled conditions are expected across the UK. Low-pressure systems from the Atlantic are likely to bring showers or longer periods of rain, with heavy rain and showers expected mainly in the western high ground areas. Strong winds or gales may occur, particularly around coasts and if deep low-pressure areas form near the UK. Short-lived periods of dry weather are also expected between weather systems, with temperatures expected to be around or slightly above average for the time of year.

Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland are all preparing for the incoming wintry weather.
