Andy Tighe, the Director of Strategy and Policy at the BBPA, highlighted the disparity between governmental promises and actions regarding support for pubs. He stressed the pressing need for a fairer taxation and regulatory framework to ensure the sustainability of pubs in the long run.
MP Tonia Antoniazzi, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, echoed the call for business rates reform, emphasizing the struggles faced by pub owners in her constituency. She emphasized the critical need for a comprehensive review of the cumulative impact of taxation changes on small and medium-sized businesses.
Both Tighe and Antoniazzi expressed optimism that forthcoming government measures will provide vital relief to pubs facing financial challenges. The HM Treasury reaffirmed its commitment to supporting pubs, citing the previously announced £4.3 billion support package as a step in the right direction to shield businesses from excessive rate hikes.
