The body of a young boy who went missing on New Year’s Eve has been discovered alongside his faithful dog. Johnathan Boley, known as John John to his family, vanished while playing in his dad’s backyard with his six-year-old brother and their dog, Buck.

He was last spotted wearing a yellow Mickey Mouse shirt, black trousers, and Paw Patrol shoes. Police mentioned that Johnathan and his brother were playing near the fence line with the dog, who then crossed over with Johnathan.

The disappearance in Walker County, Alabama, triggered an extensive search covering 500 acres and involving 160 volunteers and 126 first responders. Unfortunately, the search ended in tragedy. On January 2, the boy’s body was found, partly in a creek, after his dog guided a search team to him. Sheriff Nick Smith mentioned that a volunteer saw the dog first, leading them to John-John. Local media reported no signs of foul play or assault.

A preliminary autopsy by the Walker County Coroner revealed that Boley passed away due to hypothermia, with no immediate signs of foul play reported. John-John and his brother were visiting their father, Jameson Kyle Boley, as part of their allotted five days of visitation for the year, according to NBC News.

Upon searching for the missing child at his residence, authorities reportedly found explosives, pausing the search for safety reasons. However, it was later clarified that the devices were not explosive. Boley, 40, is facing charges unrelated to the missing person case, including unlawful manufacturing of destructive devices. Authorities mentioned the children could have been exposed to methamphetamines despite the devices being non-explosive.

John-John and his brother were in Alabama visiting their father from Florida, where they lived with their mother, Angel. They were scheduled to return to her on January 1.

In a separate incident, a body was tragically found during the search for a missing 14-year-old boy in Co Meath, Ireland. Benjamin Spot disappeared on November 19 and was last seen cycling from Market Square in Navan towards the Kentstown Road/Ramparts area. His bike was discovered at the Ramparts the following day, prompting a search operation along the River Boyne.

On December 13, Gardai announced that the missing persons appeal was called off after a body was found in Co Meath. An Garda Síochána expressed gratitude to the media for their support and confirmed no further action was needed at that time.
