A popular weather forecaster tragically died when his aircraft struck a power line and crashed into a frigid river. Roland Steadham, a seasoned meteorologist aged 67, lost his life in the accident that occurred earlier today. Flight data revealed that communication with the plane was lost at 10:55 am local time, just 12 minutes after departing from Emmett Airport in Idaho.

The wreckage of the aircraft was discovered in the nearby Payette River, with authorities suspecting that the plane collided with an object. The Gem County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the small plane hit a power line and subsequently crashed onto the icy river, resulting in the fatal injuries of both male occupants. Emergency responders from the Gem County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, and EMS swiftly arrived at the scene and are currently present.

Rescue teams swiftly navigated to the crash site by boat amidst freezing temperatures in Idaho and surrounding regions. The identity of the second individual who perished in the crash has not been disclosed yet. Details regarding the aircraft model are pending, although records indicate it was registered to Northwest Registered Agent LLC. Further information about the circumstances leading to the crash has not been made public.

Roland Steadham, highly respected as a skilled pilot, operated a small aircraft out of Emmett, as reported by CBS2. It remains uncertain whether he was piloting the plane at the time of the accident. With over 3,000 flight hours logged, Steadham had recently visited students at the aviation class of Payette River Regional Technical Academy in Emmett. According to teacher Jim Baker from Idaho6 News, Steadham encouraged the students to pursue aviation, expressing his love for flying before leaving the class.

The crash caused a power outage in the local area, and Idaho Power is collaborating with emergency teams to restore the power lines once the site is secured. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the tragic incident.

This aviation disaster closely follows another incident where a private jet crashed during takeoff at Maine’s Bangor International Airport. The luxurious jet, heading to Paris, caught fire and flipped on the tarmac, claiming the lives of everyone onboard, including a corporate pilot and an event planner associated with a Texas law firm linked to the plane.

Among the victims was Shawna Collins, a long-time employee at Lakewood Church in Houston, operated by Joel Osteen Ministries. Collins had a vibrant personality and was known for her event planning work with various clients, including Arnold and Itkin Trial Lawyers. Donald Iloff Jr., a church spokesperson, fondly remembered Collins for her beloved nature.
