Donald Trump has announced plans to impose significant tariffs on the UK starting next month if the UK continues to oppose his intentions regarding Greenland. The US President argues that acquiring Greenland is vital for national security and could be part of a missile defense system he envisions.
In a social media post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he would implement 10% tariffs on several countries, including the UK, from February 1st. Should the world not support his quest for control over Greenland by June 1st, the tariffs would escalate to 25% until the US achieves full ownership of Greenland.
Reacting to Trump’s threats, Keir Starmer emphasized that Greenland belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark and that decisions regarding its future should involve Greenlanders and Danes. Starmer condemned the imposition of tariffs on allies striving for collective NATO security, vowing to address the issue directly with the US administration.
