A woman teacher, who was emotional in court, received her sentence for engaging in sexual activities with a teenage student while her husband was away. The court was informed that McKenna Kindred initiated a flirtatious relationship with her 17-year-old student in 2022 after they connected on social media and started exchanging explicit text messages.
Text messages revealed that the 27-year-old teacher had sent suggestive messages to the boy before their physical relationship escalated. During her husband’s absence on a hunting trip, Kindred engaged in sexual activities with the student at her home in Spokane, Washington, in November 2022. The encounter reportedly lasted for three and a half hours, after which they showered and spent time together.
Their interaction began in June of the same year when the student followed Kindred on Instagram and they began exchanging explicit messages. The relationship came to light when a friend of the student accessed his Instagram account and discovered messages indicating an intimate relationship between the teacher and the student.
The student mentioned to the authorities that he visited Kindred’s residence between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm. Initially, they kissed while watching a movie, which then progressed to sexual intercourse on the couch before moving to Kindred’s bedroom.
Reports from the student’s mother indicated that the former educator shared intimate photos, including images of her breasts, with the teenager, who reciprocated with explicit videos. The communication between them continued even after their physical encounter.
Following rumors circulating within the school community about their relationship, the student’s friends shared screenshots of messages with school officials in December 2022. Additional texts from Kindred included phrases like “I want you to be in my room” and “I really like being touched by you.”
Subsequent to her arrest, during which her phone was examined, Kindred admitted to engaging in sexual misconduct with a minor and communicating inappropriately with a minor as part of a plea deal in March 2024. Despite this, Kindred did not receive a jail sentence but was placed on two years of probation, ordered to pay a $700 fine, and required to register as a sex offender for a decade.
In tears during the court proceedings, the teacher expressed remorse for her actions, acknowledging the significant stress her actions had caused to all involved. She stated, “I am genuinely sorry for my behavior. This past year has been incredibly challenging for everyone affected. My actions have led to the loss of my career, important friendships, freedoms, and have disappointed numerous individuals who trusted me. My mental well-being has also been severely impacted by these events. I feel profound shame for the pain I have inflicted.”
Despite the situation, Kindred’s husband, Kyle, supported her. Following her arrest, the couple relocated from their Liberty Lake apartment to Kyle’s parents’ residence in a rural village south of Spokane. Subsequently, they moved to Idaho, where they purchased a $498,000 home in June 2024.
It remains uncertain whether Kindred has returned to work since voluntarily surrendering her teaching license in response to an investigation by the Idaho Standards Commission.
