Robert Jenrick faced scrutiny over his treatment of women as he clashed with journalist Kate McCann during an interview on Times Radio. The former Conservative minister, who recently switched to Reform, was questioned about his apparent disregard for female figures, including mispronouncing Kemi Badenoch’s name to annoy party leadership.

During the interview, Jenrick dismissed concerns raised by McCann, downplaying the importance of the issue and attempting to deflect the conversation. When McCann highlighted the criticism of female politicians, Jenrick bristled, insisting the gender of those criticized was irrelevant and asserting that his focus was on the country’s challenges.

Despite persistent questioning from McCann regarding his mispronunciation of Badenoch’s name and the perceived dismissiveness towards women in his public appearances, Jenrick continued to deny any wrongdoing. He defended himself by highlighting his role as a husband and father to daughters, expressing offense at the insinuation that he lacked respect for women.

In response to the interview, a Labour source criticized Jenrick’s behavior, suggesting that his remarks were patronizing and reflective of his failed tenure as a Conservative minister. Jenrick’s subsequent departure from the Tories and alignment with Reform UK under Nigel Farage further fueled controversy, with reports indicating grandiose plans for his defection to the right-wing party.

Allegations surfaced that internal documents from Jenrick’s team, intercepted by Badenoch, revealed a planned defection to Reform UK. The documents purportedly painted Jenrick as a pivotal figure in the party’s strategy, positioning him as a significant asset in their political landscape.
