Among those in attendance were long-time friend and manager Paul Speak, Ricky’s father Ray, brother Matthew, and former partner Jennifer Dooley. The former world champion was discovered at his £1.7 million residence in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14, 2023, at the age of 46. Paul Speak found him unresponsive at the property after Hatton was last seen alive by family members two days prior.
Alison Mutch, senior coroner for South Manchester, stated during the inquest that Hatton had made significant future plans and no notes suggesting suicidal intentions were found. She concluded that the evidence did not support a determination of suicide, leading to a narrative verdict. It was noted that Hatton had chronic traumatic encephalopathy and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of his passing.
Hatton’s son, Campbell, expressed his belief that his father’s death was not premeditated, emphasizing that the family perceived Hatton to be in a positive state and making plans for the future. Despite past challenges with alcohol and drugs, Hatton was described as being in good spirits and looking forward to the future, according to statements made during the inquest. Furthermore, toxicological reports indicated elevated alcohol levels in Hatton’s system at the time of his passing, along with evidence of prior cocaine use.
