The union representing WestJet flight attendants has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has outlined key elements of the deal, including an over 18% salary increase spread over three years and a new “duty period premium” for ground duty compensation. Additionally, the agreement entails extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.
During the extended holiday weekend, all WestJet flights in most parts of Canada were suspended as the deadline for a potential strike by 4,400 flight attendants loomed. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early on Monday, leading to a gradual resumption of WestJet operations.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the proposed deal in the upcoming weeks to finalize the agreement.
