Statistics Canada reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada within the initial days of its opening. The highly anticipated bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, commenced operations on July 27 following some delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were approximately 18,900 return trips made by Canadian residents from the United States via the Gordie Howe bridge in the first five days of its operation. Similarly, around 18,100 U.S. residents traveled across the bridge into Canada during the same period.
In contrast, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, other key border crossings in the area, witnessed a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents within the same timeframe. Notably, commercial transport trucks accounted for 4,100 trips to Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
