Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, strongly criticized the actions of Israeli settlers who have besieged a Palestinian American family’s home in the West Bank, describing it as a “horrific act of terror.” According to local sources, settlers have been gathering near the residence in Qusra village since Sunday, harassing the occupants and disregarding attempts by the Israeli military to resolve the situation peacefully.
The group of settlers, comprising dozens of men, have engaged in aggressive behavior such as throwing stones, trying to demolish a nearby stone wall, and preventing the family from accessing essential supplies or leaving the premises. Qusai Abu Rida, who sought refuge in the house with his teenage son to protect it, disclosed that they were relocated by the Israeli military to another residence but are still restricted from moving freely in the area.
Despite the family’s pleas for assistance, the Israeli military did not confirm relocating any residents. Loui Ridi, the homeowner, revealed that the settlers had been targeting his Qusra property for months before the recent escalation of hostilities.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, Huckabee stated that Israeli authorities have taken action to remove the individuals responsible for the attack. He condemned the perpetrators, describing their actions as repugnant and aimed at instilling fear and distress in the family.
Israeli forces have intervened to restore order, dismantling two illegal outposts on the outskirts of Qusra and detaining one Israeli individual. Additional troops have been deployed to the area near Nablus to conduct defensive operations and patrols.
Criticism has been directed towards Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration for allegedly ignoring settler attacks on Palestinians. The Israeli military initially condemned the siege as illegal and reprehensible, declaring the area a closed military zone; however, settlers returned the following day to obstruct the roads with rocks.
The village of Qusra has witnessed heightened tensions, with recent incidents including a mosque being set ablaze in a suspected settler assault. These actions have exacerbated conflict in the region, leading to casualties on both sides. The continued expansion of settlements in the West Bank has been condemned internationally, further complicating efforts to establish a Palestinian state in the area.
The Palestinians aspire to incorporate the West Bank into a future state, while many settlers argue for Israeli control of the region based on historical, religious, and security considerations.
