Madonna, the queen of pop, is set to make a triumphant return to claim her throne. Surpassing other top artists, Madonna has secured eleven nominations for the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards, making her the most nominated artist for the third time in her career. Her nominations, including artist and video of the year, are in recognition of her highly successful album “Confessions II” and its associated film.

Despite fierce competition from artists like Taylor Swift, who holds the record for most VMA wins as a solo artist, Madonna’s achievements stand out. Taylor Swift received nine nominations for her album “The Life of a Showgirl” and the music video “The Fate of Ophelia.” Following closely behind Swift are Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, each with seven nominations.

This isn’t Madonna’s first time leading the VMA nominations; she previously dominated in 1990 and 1998 with the iconic eras of “Vogue” and “Ray of Light.” However, Madonna’s enduring legacy with the VMAs traces back to her groundbreaking performance at the inaugural 1984 ceremony, where she pushed boundaries with her rendition of “Like a Virgin” in a memorable wedding dress and “Boy Toy” belt buckle.

Among Madonna’s nominations are nods for video of the year, artist of the year, and song and collaboration of the year for “Bring Your Love,” featuring Sabrina Carpenter. The highly anticipated video of the year category will see “Confessions” competing against Taylor Swift’s “Ophelia,” Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Tears,” Bruno Mars’s “I Just Might,” and Gener8ion and Yung Lean’s “Storm.”

For this year’s VMAs, the public can participate in voting for 13 categories. The winners will be revealed during the live broadcast of the ceremony on September 27, airing on CBS, MTV, and streaming on Paramount+.
