Brandon Nakashima, a 28th seed, had never made it to an ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinal until this week. However, he has now secured a spot in the National Bank Open men’s singles final. Nakashima defeated Rafael Jodar, a rising star and crowd favorite, in the semifinals with a score of 7-6 (3), 6-4. Nakashima expressed his happiness and gratitude for his hard work paying off and looks forward to the final.

In the final, Nakashima will face defending champion Ben Shelton in an all-American showdown. Shelton, the fifth seed, swiftly defeated Learner Tien 6-2, 6-3 in just 84 minutes. Nakashima dominated the match with his strong serves, winning 68% of his first-service points and landing 85% of his first serves in play.

Despite Jodar’s efforts, Nakashima’s aggressive play proved too much for him. Jodar, seeded 20th, struggled with his first serves and second-serve points. Nakashima credited his forehand and serve for his victory, emphasizing the importance of being aggressive and coming forward during the match.

Jodar, who was aiming to become the youngest Canadian Open finalist since Rafael Nadal in 2005, fell short in his match against Nakashima. Nakashima’s solid performance and strategic gameplay led him to victory, ending Jodar’s impressive run in the tournament.

The intense match concluded with Nakashima serving for the win, facing multiple break points from Jodar. However, Nakashima remained composed and sealed the victory after a series of tense rallies. Shelton, on the other hand, showcased his prowess on serve and is now set to defend his title in the final against Nakashima.

In the women’s event, Iga Swiatek secured her spot in the final after defeating Elina Svitolina in a hard-fought match. Swiatek’s strong performance and strategic play earned her a chance to compete for the title against either Coco Gauff or Elena Rybakina. The final match was scheduled for the following day.

The National Bank Open continues to witness thrilling matches and top performances from the world’s best players. Stay tuned for more updates on this prestigious tournament.
