A village in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region was struck by a Russian missile attack on Tuesday, resulting in the death of 10 individuals, as announced by Ukrainian authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, stating that it targeted a busy area in Pechenihy that included essential services and residential buildings. Zelenskyy shared images of the devastation caused by the attack, highlighting the destruction of buildings, burning vehicles, and the rescue efforts underway.
The governor of the region, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that 17 people were also injured in the assault, with substantial damage inflicted on private residences, a café, a post office, a store, and multiple vehicles in the village. While Russia did not immediately respond to the incident, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office indicated that the attack involved the use of two small Banderol cruise missiles.
In a retaliatory move, Ukraine launched a large-scale drone offensive targeting Moscow and surrounding areas, deploying 620 drones in one of Kyiv’s significant air assaults on the region. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that Russian forces intercepted 180 drones over Moscow, with reports of some casualties and damage. The drones targeted various facilities, including a warehouse belonging to the Russian e-commerce company Wildberries, resulting in injuries, including a 10-year-old girl.
Additionally, Russian-controlled regions, such as Crimea, experienced heavy drone attacks from Ukraine, affecting power supplies and causing disruptions in several settlements. In response to British involvement in supplying drones to Ukraine, Russia issued warnings of potential consequences for London’s actions in supporting Ukraine’s military efforts. Despite the lack of confirmation from Britain’s Defence Ministry, the UK has pledged support to Ukraine by providing drones as part of a larger funding package to aid in defense against the ongoing conflict.
