At the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, the initial phase of competition is coming to a close following several action-packed days. The Corner Brook Civic Centre witnessed intense ball hockey matches as athletes from various regions vied for medals. Team Mount Pearl South emerged victorious, defeating Team Avalon 4-3 in the gold medal showdown. Thirteen-year-old Raine Foss, hailing from Paradise, sealed the win with a crucial goal, expressing his gratitude for the chance to compete.
Raine reflected on his winning moment, stating, “I made a strategic play, seized the opportunity, and scored. Representing MPS in this event is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.” Teammate Reid Swain shared his excitement about clinching the gold, emphasizing the team’s hard work over the past months.
Although Team Avalon’s Ryan Walsh didn’t achieve the desired medal, he cherished the camaraderie and fun experiences in Corner Brook. Team Central secured the bronze, with 14-year-old Jack Stone from Grand Falls-Windsor proudly bringing home the medal. Stone expressed his elation, stating, “It’s an ecstatic feeling. Winning a medal in a tournament where the outcome was uncertain is truly gratifying.”
