John Tory Named Chair of TIFF Board, Tenure Begins Oct 1

John Tory, the previous mayor of Toronto, has assumed the role of chair of the board of directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board members, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction.

His tenure officially commences on October 1, as per a recent news release. The festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20 this year. Tory succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who had been serving as chair since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in the role he played in the festival’s journey.

TIFF also revealed the appointment of three new board members: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Meanwhile, Asha Daniere, a board member for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF expressed its deep appreciation for Daniere’s dedication and contributions to the organization.
