Miyu Yamashita had a triumphant debut in Canada, securing victory at the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton. The 25-year-old Japanese golfer clinched her fourth LPGA Tour win, the second this year, with an impressive performance at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club. Posting a 4-under-par 66 in the final round, Yamashita finished at 23 under in the $2.75-million US event, leading by a comfortable nine strokes over her compatriot Yuri Yoshida who finished at 14 under.

Expressing her delight, Yamashita, standing at four-foot-11, mentioned, “I’m thrilled to win in Canada. The support from the fans was amazing, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing this week.” Her stellar performance in Edmonton tied the all-time lowest score on the LPGA Tour with a four-day total of 257, making her the fastest Japanese player to reach four LPGA wins.

In other notable performances, Vancouver’s Anna Huang shot a 5-under 65 to finish at 12 under, claiming the top Canadian spot in a tie for fourth. Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, finishing at 11 under in a tie for seventh, retained her position as the low amateur for the second consecutive year. Two-time champion Brooke Henderson from Smiths Falls, Ont., ended at 7 under in a tie for 13th after carding an even par 70 in the final round.

Huang, a 17-year-old golfer, secured her fourth European Tour victory in August, becoming the youngest to achieve this feat. She expressed her joy at playing in front of a home crowd, stating, “Making the cut at an LPGA event is special, and performing well at the Canadian Open was truly awesome.” Both Huang and Deng’s top-10 finishes granted them entry into the LPGA’s FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass.

Reflecting on her performance, world No. 1 Nelly Korda finished at 1 under for the tournament, while Henderson faced challenges hitting into the rough and emphasized the need for improved putting to elevate her game. Michelle Xing and other Canadian amateurs showcased promising performances, with Xing finishing at 3 under and amateurs Savannah Grewal and Clairey Lin concluding at 3-over par. Looking ahead, the 2027 CPKC Women’s Open is set to take place at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Que.
