Apple has commenced its annual WWDC Developers Conference at its futuristic headquarters in Cupertino. The event serves as a platform for the tech giant to unveil its upcoming software enhancements. The highlight of this year’s conference is the announcement of iOS 27, set to launch in the Fall and supersede iOS 26 as Apple’s newest operating system.
The iOS 27 update will introduce various improvements, such as enhanced customization options for the Liquid Glass interface, streamlined file searches, and a more advanced Siri capable of tasks like composing emails, scheduling events, and assisting in ticket bookings for events.
Apple assures that even older iPhone models will experience improved responsiveness through a feature called CPU Scheduler. Overall, device performance is expected to be faster, with iPhone and iPad apps launching up to 30% quicker, photos loading up to 70% faster post-capture, and AirDrop transfers being up to 80% more efficient.
For parents with children using Apple devices, the company is introducing a set of intuitive features to manage content access, communication permissions, and screen time. This includes features like “Ask to Browse,” “Time Allowances,” and Screen Time settings to ensure a safer digital experience for kids.
Sumbul Desai, M.D., Apple’s vice president of Health and Fitness, emphasized Apple’s commitment to empowering users and enhancing their lives while maintaining safety standards. The company aims to implement age-based protections and promote healthy digital habits through the latest updates.
Although Apple is yet to disclose the full list of changes, it has confirmed that all iPhones currently running iOS 26 will be eligible for the iOS 27 upgrade. The compatible devices for iOS 27 include a range of iPhone models from iPhone 11 to iPhone SE (3rd generation).
