A well-known hotel and restaurant abruptly closed its doors after operating for 46 years, causing distress among its clientele.
The closure of Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire off the A6, has been confirmed. The hotel, offering 65 rooms and located by St Michael’s Road alongside the canal, has ceased operations, resulting in the termination of all staff members.
A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, signaling the end of its services. Spanning nearly 14 acres, the site encompassed various amenities such as a tavern, restaurant, sports pavilion, function rooms, a cricket ground, bowling green, and three parking lots.
According to the Lancashire Post, the notice displayed at the entrance stated, “After 46 years of trading, we can confirm Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now closed. This decision was made after careful consideration, and we express our heartfelt gratitude to our loyal customers, staff, and suppliers for their unwavering support throughout the years.”
Customers, deeply saddened by the news, have taken to social media to share their memories. One individual recalled a romantic proposal at the venue in 2012, while another lamented their engagement there in 2015, expressing regret over the establishment’s closure.
The Wilkinson family has managed the business since 1980 and listed it for sale last year, with a reported net turnover of approximately £4.2 million. The listing highlighted the hotel’s strategic location near key attractions like the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland, offering 65 well-appointed en suite bedrooms that catered to both leisure and commercial guests.
