The individual accused in connection with the tragic car accident involving professional boxer Anthony Joshua has made a court appearance in Nigeria. The incident led to the deaths of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, after their vehicle collided with a stationary lorry near Lagos on December 29. Although Joshua sustained injuries, he survived the crash.

The defendant, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, attended the Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state near Lagos, where his hearing was postponed to March 13. Kayode faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving and reckless and negligent driving. Additionally, he was released on bail of approximately £2,600 and also charged with driving without due care and lacking a valid driver’s license, potentially facing a life sentence. Prosecutors requested more time to gather evidence for the case.

Anthony Joshua narrowly escaped death in the accident and was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve after a successful recovery. Since returning to the UK in early January, he has been undergoing rehabilitation.

Reflecting on the loss of his colleagues, Joshua expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received during the challenging period. He emphasized the deep impact of the tragedy, stating that the deceased individuals were significant figures in their lives, both personally and professionally. Joshua vowed to uphold the legacy of his friends and ensure their dreams are fulfilled, highlighting his commitment to honoring their memory.
