Trump has cautioned Iran against harshly suppressing anti-government demonstrators and has indicated that support will be provided should Tehran proceed with planned executions. In response, Iran has threatened retaliation against US military installations in the region in the event of American aggression.
Alongside the decision to withdraw British troops, the US has initiated the evacuation of some personnel from the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which is the largest American base in that area. An anonymous US official described the personnel relocation as a precautionary measure but did not elaborate further.
Mohammad Pakpour, commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, has vowed a forceful response to the deaths of Iranian individuals considered as “martyrs and security protectors.” Pakpour accused the US and Israel of orchestrating protests and being responsible for numerous casualties, warning that these nations will face consequences at the appropriate time.
Sir Keir Starmer announced collaborative efforts with allies to impose additional sanctions on the Iranian regime, denouncing the violent suppression and killings of protestors in Iran. The regime’s crackdown on dissent has reportedly resulted in the deaths of numerous demonstrators. Starmer emphasized the need to stand against such brutality and affirmed ongoing actions to safeguard UK citizens.
Following the imposition of new sanctions on the Iranian regime and the summoning of the Iranian ambassador by the Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper informed MPs about the UK’s targeted measures against key sectors in Iran. These measures aim to counter Iranian nuclear ambitions and may be expanded in cooperation with the EU and other partners to address evolving developments.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence refrained from commenting on specific basing and deployment details for security reasons but highlighted the UK’s commitment to safeguarding personnel by implementing precautionary measures, including personnel withdrawals when deemed necessary.
