Canada faced new accusations of rule-breaking during a women’s curling match against Switzerland at the Winter Olympics. The Canadian men’s team also encountered controversy in their game against Sweden due to a dispute over alleged double-touching of the stones on the ice.

The Swedish team claimed that members of the Canadian team were guilty of double touching, which occurs when stones are touched after passing a specific line on the ice called the hog line. The controversy extended into the next day when Canadian curler Rachel Homan had her stone disqualified for a supposed touch after release, as per the official ruling.

Homan objected to the decision, but under World Curling rules, there are no video replays, and the final call by the officials stands. Expressing her disagreement on the ice, Homan stated firmly, “Absolutely not.”

Her teammates also expressed frustration with the ruling, with Emma Miskew commenting, “It looked like a perfect throw from our perspective, so I’m puzzled by that.” Homan added, “There’s no way, I’d love to see a video.”

Following the match, an upset Homan criticized the decision, stating, “I don’t comprehend the call. I’ll never understand it. We’ve never done that. It’s unfair to us.”

After the incident in the men’s game, Curling Canada addressed the cheating allegations and one player’s inappropriate language on TV. The statement emphasized a commitment to fair play and respect in curling, acknowledging the importance of upholding these values.

Despite expressing regret over his use of language, player Marc Kennedy defended his actions, stating, “You can’t undo it. You learn from it and move forward, focusing on the game.” Kennedy stressed his dedication to fair play, highlighting that he takes accusations of cheating seriously and stands by his integrity.
